Jamal Khalfan bin Huwaireb, cultural adviser to the governor of Dubai, left Cairo Friday morning after a one-day visit during which he discussed the Dubai police chief's controversial statements with Egyptian officials, state-run al-Ahram newspaper reported.

Dubai Police Chief Dahi Khalfan reportedly published comments on Twitter criticizing President-elect Mohamed Morsy.

“[Morsy] will come crawling to the Gulf, and we will not receive him on a red carpet. He will kiss the hands of the custodian of the two holy mosques as [Muslim Brotherhood founder] Hassan al-Banna did with King Abdel Aziz,” Khalfan wrote.

Al-Ahram said that Huwaireb held the meetings to contain the situation and stressed the depth of the relationship between Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

The Alliance of Egyptian Revolutionaries called on the United Arab Emirates to officially apologize to Egypt for Khalfan's statement.

Alliance spokesperson Amer al-Wakil demanded Khalfan’s dismissal and punishment in a statement Friday, saying he is a senior official whose words will have adversely affect the strong ties between the UAE and Egypt.

Wakil has also called on Morsy to announce his position on the supplement to the Constitutional Declaration. The president-elect had earlier said he rejected the document, but then agreed to take the oath of office before the Supreme Constitutional Court, as stipulated in the declaration supplement.

Wakil said that when Morsy becomes president he has to cancel the document, because as the sole legitimate representative of the people, it is no longer acceptable for him to merely “reject” or “condemn.”

Mauritania's National Assembly for Reform and Development, a major political party, has celebrated the election of the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed Morsy as Egypt's first post-revolution president.

The celebration, held at the party's headquarters in the capital Nawakshot, was attended by Egypt's ambassador Youssef Ahmed al-Sharqawy, Al Jazeera said on Monday.

The Presidential Elections Commission announced Sunday that Morsy had beat former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq in the election.

The website said party leaders and hosts delivered speeches during the popular event. Participants chanted in support for the new president, hoisting Egyptian flags and posters of Morsy.

Party chairman Mohamed Jamil Mansour said the Brotherhood project, launched by its founder, Hassan al-Banna, recorded a terrific success despite persecution.

Mansour said deposed President Hosni Mubarak used to intimidate the US and the West about the Brotherhood, adding that Egyptians, however, elected the Brotherhood both for the Parliament and the presidency.

Sharqawy said he had received torrents of congratulating calls after Morsy was declared president. He said the sympathy and solidarity expressed by Mauritanians was “extensive and impressive.”

He said delegations representing Mauritanians from all walks of life came to offer their congratulations. The ambassador hailed the role played by Egypt’s ruling military and judges in running the electoral process.

The young members of the Muslim Brotherhood, including the “Brotherhood Cry” group, have launched an initiative to reach a national consensus over a single presidential candidate.

They issued a statement, saying: “Based on our responsibility towards our country, and consistent with the thoughts of our imam, Hassan al-Banna, we call upon all the honorable national forces to stand up to their responsibility at this difficult historical moment of the glorious Egyptian revolution, and agree on one presidential candidate who is able to achieve the aspirations of the Egyptian people in the face of the remnants of the former regime.”

The statement also said that they put the interest of the nation above any personal or material interests.

Ahmed Abu Baraka, legal advisor to the Freedom and Justice Party, questioned the earnest of the initiative. “They were against the idea of consensus candidate before,” he said, adding that the mother group was against it from the very beginning.
