Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr will visit Libya to personally push for the release of detained International Criminal Court (ICC) staff, including Australian lawyer Melinda Taylor.
Foreign Minister Bob Carr said on Wednesday an Australian lawyer and three others held in Libya were entitled to immunity, but admitted the chances of their early release appeared slim.
An Australian lawyer being held in Libya will be released if she reveals the whereabouts of the country’s most wanted man, a key player in the former regime of Muammar Gaddafi, a report said on Tuesday.
The Australian Foreign Minister said he had spoken to a senior Libyan minister over the detention of an ICC lawyer accused of spying, expressing hope that she would be released soon.
